Marietta for Capdell
Soft curves that echo the lightness of a ladybird
Marietta draws inspiration from the subtle charm of the ladybird, translating its gentle curvature and compact presence into a refined seating gesture. The chair embraces softness without fragility, shaping a rounded silhouette that feels protective, welcoming and quietly expressive. Like the insect that inspired it, Marietta carries a sense of lightness and balance, where volume is carefully contained and every curve is resolved with intention. The design explores how organic references can be distilled into contemporary form, creating a piece that feels familiar, approachable and composed within its environment.
The project began with an exploration of protective geometry and enveloping comfort. The rounded back and embracing seat echo the natural dome of a ladybird’s shell, offering both visual softness and ergonomic support. Proportion was carefully tuned to achieve a compact yet generous presence, allowing the chair to feel inviting while maintaining clarity and refinement.
In its final expression Marietta becomes more than a functional object. It brings a subtle warmth into interior spaces, combining organic inspiration with disciplined execution. The result is a chair that feels calm, tactile and enduring, a quiet reminder that nature can inform design in ways that are both poetic and purposeful.
