Effortless harmony of material, movement, and memory
Rooted in a genuine reinterpretation of the classic folding chair, this design emerges from the intersection of memory and utility, capturing a vivid sense of familiarity while redefining spatial intelligence. The chair embodies a delicate balance between structure and gesture, marrying warm solid wood with finely articulated metal elements to create a piece that is both resilient and poetic. Every contour, from the enveloping plywood backrest to the tactile handle-like proportions, is shaped to elevate presence and comfort in compact form, making the chair not just an object but a lived companion in diverse environments.
From the outset, the design sought a language that was intimate yet rigorous, where each decision served both expressive clarity and everyday ease. Drawing on a childhood reference of folding seats in family homes, the project harnesses emotional memory as a productive force, shaping form through recollection rather than trend. The result is a chair that unfolds naturally with purpose, its system of geometry and proportions attuned to ergonomic nuance and space-aware functionality, enabling a rare union of practicality and expressive identity.
The chair’s structure embraces both material intelligence and user intuition, integrating armrests without sacrificing its compact fold. By rethinking conventional mechanisms through a refined lens of proportions and joinery, the design delivers a genuinely ergonomic experience that anticipates movement and use. Its plywood backrest seamlessly integrates with the solid wood frame, enhancing comfort while serving as a built-in grip for effortless transport. This synthesis of refined craft, structural clarity and emotional resonance embodies a distinct approach to everyday design that feels both contemporary and timeless.
