Ventall for Wendelbo
Comfort through expressive form
Ventall is a lounge chair that expresses comfort through generous form and quiet character. Inspired by traditional wicker fans, the design’s most distinctive feature is its wide backrest, curved in multiple directions to embrace the seat and envelop the sitter. The chair balances structural clarity with a sense of welcome and ease, creating a presence that is both expressive and composed. Its articulated back becomes a visual signature, turning a simple seating object into a piece that feels crafted, tactile and intimately familiar while still maintaining a refined identity in contemporary interiors.
The intention was to reinterpret a familiar vernacular, the hand-held fan, into a modern seating piece that translates its heritage into an inviting architectural gesture. The challenge was to balance expressive curvature with structural restraint.
Ventall becomes a lounge chair that feels both robust and inviting. Its wide, sculptural backrest generates a sense of protection and presence without overwhelming the space. The design demonstrates how a reference to tradition can be distilled into contemporary form, offering comfort with calm elegance.
