Carmen for Bolia
Sculptural comfort, everyday ease
Carmen is an armchair that embodies quiet refinement and tactile presence. Its design emerges from a careful balance between organic form and structural clarity, creating a silhouette that feels both composed and inviting. The chair’s gentle curves articulate a sense of comfort without resorting to overt gestures, giving Carmen a presence that is both sculptural and approachable. The interplay between upholstered volume and subtle supporting lines enriches the spatial experience, allowing the piece to sit comfortably in residential, hospitality and contract interiors alike.
The objective was to design a chair that offers genuine comfort while asserting a refined formal identity. The challenge was to bring together softness and presence in a way that feels contemporary yet timeless, avoiding visual noise and celebrating simplicity of gesture.
Carmen’s design evolved through a study of posture and spatial dialogue. The proportions were tuned to ensure a balanced, grounded presence while offering a welcoming seat. Attention to every curve and transition resulted in a composition that harmonizes ergonomics and visual calm. Material choices and detailing were calibrated to elevate the tactile and sensory experience of the chair.
Carmen becomes an armchair with presence without excess. Its composed form and refined silhouette bring calm to space while offering a comfortable experience for everyday use. The chair demonstrates how simplicity and thoughtful proportion can generate an object that is both expressive and versatile.
