Mullit for Sancal
Calm presence, intentional comfort
Mullit is a chair that unites sculptural presence with thoughtful comfort. Born from a study of organic form and structural simplicity, Mullit expresses a refined balance between volume and tactility. Its silhouette feels at once calm and distinct, with gentle curvature shaping a seat that invites lingering. The design prioritizes clarity of line and proportion while embracing the subtle interplay between form and function. Mullit’s presence transforms seating into an intentional experience, where comfort and quiet architectural expression coexist with ease.
The project aimed to design a chair that delivers comfort without unnecessary complexity. The intent was to generate a piece that integrates into diverse environments while asserting a gentle, iconic identity. Mullit’s design works across residential, hospitality and contract contexts, offering visual calm and refined presence.
The development process focused on synthesizing shape and ergonomics. Volumes were refined through careful study of posture and movement, prioritizing a natural relationship between body and chair. The form emerged through iteration, optimizing transitions between backrest, seat and structure to achieve a cohesive, flowing silhouette.
Materiality and manufacturing considerations informed the refinement of proportions. Details were resolved to ensure tactile satisfaction and structural clarity, resulting in a chair that feels purposeful and serene.
Mullit becomes a piece that balances gentle character with spatial composure. Its sculptural simplicity and thoughtful proportions give it a clarity of presence that enriches interiors without overwhelming them. The chair offers a comfortable, expressive and versatile seating solution that resonates with modern design sensibilities.
